The Big Story podcast

This is a new podcast from AdExchanger. It will be available wherever you subscribe to podcasts.

The Big Story is a breezy new podcast featuring a roundtable of AdExchanger editors talking about, well, the biggest stories that broke over the past week.

In our inaugural episode, Managing Editor Ryan Joe and staff writers Alison Weissbrot and James Hercher discuss two holding-company acquisitions that, while very different, will both disrupt the agency landscape.

Last week, IPG acquired Acxiom’s Marketing Solutions division, a move that gives the holdco capabilities it didn’t have before – namely, its ability to work with first-party data. If IPG plays its cards right, it could find itself a leader in data-driven marketing, surpassing rivals such as WPP Group.

And speaking of WPP, its former chief, Martin Sorrell, outbid the holding company to buy digital production agency MediaMonks. Sorrell’s S4 Capital swooped in with a $300 million offer to make MediaMonks its first agency acquisition – with more in the wings.

The AdExchanger editors will delve into what these two acquisitions mean for the companies involved and for the industry as a whole. So, subscribe, listen during your commute and lead the conversation at the in-office bar and snack center.
