Elizabeth Warren has big plans for Facebook: Break it up.

This week on The Big Story, the team places Warren’s plan, and her campaign strategy, under the microscope.

The Verge published the transcript on Tuesday of a Q&A Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had with his employees, in which he addressed Warren’s plans to break up big tech. Spoiler alert: He’s against it. Meanwhile, Warren used that earned media bonus to reemphasize her stance.

It’s notable that while Facebook’s privacy issues and its antitrust issues are separate, Warren connects the two, writing on Twitter: “Imagine Facebook and Instagram trying to outdo each other to protect your privacy and keep misinformation out of your feed, instead of working together to sell your data, inundate you with misinformation and undermine our election security.”

Also, we’ll dive into Warren’s presidential campaign, and the unique way it approaches data. James Hercher wrote on Monday about how the campaign could be a new model for future candidates, and looks at the big risks she took early on – and how they seem to be paying off.

And finally, what’s data without a little creativity?

Agencies have invested heavily to integrate data into their creative teams – but it’s not as easy as simply owning the tech. There also needs to be a process to translate that data into insights the creative teams can use. Alison Weissbrot detailed the problems agencies have getting creatives to use data – while consultancy competitors like Deloitte have the infrastructure in place to make it work.
