The Big Story podcast

The Big Story is a breezy new podcast featuring a roundtable of AdExchanger editors talking about the biggest stories from the past week. It is available wherever you subscribe to podcasts.

Is blockchain a solution in search of a problem?

This week on The Big Story, members of the AdExchanger editorial team talk about blockchain, the subject of a feature (What’s The Latest For Blockchain In Ad Tech?) that was among our most read stories last week.

In his blockchain story, reporter James Hercher offers a rundown of the tech platforms that are experimenting with blockchain, along with some real marketer examples from the likes of Tyson Foods, Kimberly-Clark and Bayer. Use cases range from campaign reconciliation to trading on media futures.

Friction abounds, however, as do some very wackadoo startup pitches that confuse brands (and journalists) as to what’s real and what’s snake oil.

“If you are a sincere company and you believe in it and want to build a business, it’s hard to stand out from this crowd of bizarre and loud people screaming about the technology,” Hercher says.

Also in this episode: Some of the weirder blockchain story pitches we’ve received, plus a review of Snap’s Q2 earnings.
